Galcon is now available to the public through InstantAction and as extremely addictive as ever. "Galcon is an awesome high-paced multi-player galactic action-strategy game. You send swarms of ships from planet to planet to take over the galaxy."
You've got the choice on how dedicated you want to become. Firstly, you can drop a measly 10 tokens to play the game, it's like an arcade payment system. Secondly, once you get hooked you can rent the game for a month or a year at 500 ActionTokens and 1400 ActionTokens respectively.
With more game modes coming soon, it's gonna be awesome. Get in there so you can destroy me in multiplayer.

Yah, uh. have fun playing with no one.

Quejet: As the Mac version STILL isn't out, I'm not sure that many people who want to play can play. Also, what's different about the gameplay? I've been playing Galcon for a year and I don't see any difference in gameplay, except no chat.

This game is in the same style as zap, at least in looks, Tell me, how is zap doing?
Here's how i see it
take the popularity of zap
multiply it by the percent of people willing to rent a game
multiply THAT by the percent of people who even CAN pay to rent a game
multiply that by the percent of people who arnt imposed by strategy games
annnnnnd multiply that by the percent of people who have done the above math and realized that no one is going to be playing it, so it would be insane to buy it.
this number ruffly equals 0
so again
have fun playing by yourself.

Yeah, sorry Dr. Wiley. I have to agree with the others. Most of us don't want to rent a game. We'd much rather play it for free and have some of it locked. Especially since HALF THE COMMUNITY cannot even GET Action Tokens because: [my problem, I would be fine if you sold game cards in the store or something] Our parents don't like paypal, They don't like paying for otherwise free games, We cannot use Paypal (Some people cannot), etc.

I don't know why it said that, I could play just fine. I think it has something to do with my employee account.

I would straight up buy this game (for 20 dollars even), but not pay over and over again. Maybe you should pay per ship that you use. Or perhaps cost = "number of opponents ships at end of game" amount of tokens, and winner gets 10% tokens of the amount specified above

Ok this is a F***ing circus
galcons going to fail. There is no way people are going to PAY per round.
Just get it off instant action already and let us move on.

A bit negative, are we? I have a hunch: if you all were to play a few games, against friends, you might discover that it is in fact really addictive and one of the more fun games on IA. That said, it is absolutely true that the having-to-pay aspect means that there will be a far smaller playerbase, at least to begin with. However, once it hits critical mass and the snowball effect begins, I think it'll become a staple of IA play. And to refute Sky Lark's claim that it is similar to ZAP, it's really not. Really. The resemblance is at best superficial, but the gameplay is as different as Legions is to Cyclomite.

oh NOT the bloody pretentious argument again
I'VE PLAYED THE GAME.
AGAINST FRIENDS
ONLINE
i downloaded the trial version that the original author of the game released. I loved it! I'm still never renting this game, nor never paying a cent, because i know no one else will and it will end up being a colossal waist of money and time.
1. visibly galcon looks like zap, which means that it will at first visually attract people the same just like zap.
Gameplay doesnt matter if no one can play.
2. it's 2d, most gamers only play things 3d because most gamers are DENSE
3. it's a strategy game, most gamers are put off by strategy game as stated by reason 2.
4. legions is the staple of IA, trust me, your not going to beat out a fps game with a 2d game no matter HOW good one is VS how shitty another is. FPS wins every time, reason is stated in 2.
5. sub reason for 4, legions is free, galcon isn't. GAME OVER.

Legions is just free FOR NOW. what about if IA made you rent him too? or if it would release superhipermegamaxigigamonsterweapons*runs out of breath*by AT?

"what about if IA made you rent him too?"
In relation to legions i think it's less a case of 'if' and more a case of 'when'. And i don't pretend to have an intimate knowledge of IA's business plan, but surely nobody can ignore that it simply does not make good business sense not to introduce a payment plan at some point in the near future.
Personally, i don't think a payment scheme such as this is at all necessary for Galcon. While it's a fairly addictive timewaster, it's simply nowhere near as polished or as fun, or as deep as legions, now feel free to disagree with me here, but paying for Galcon and getting Legions for free just seems insane...and i doubt it'll be this way for much longer.
Saying all that, i would in fact pay for legions, if it was reasonable.
