Tribes and InstantAction: Updated

Remember Tribes?  The original jetpack shooter?  Yeah, you probably know what game I'm talking about.

Well Tribes is coming back!  We have obtained the IP for the entire Starsiege Universe including Tribes 1.  We'll be showing Tribes 1 off at GDC this next week in San Francisco, so if you will be there, be sure to stop by our booth and check it out.

As you can see the graphics have not been touched.  This is the same Tribes that fans will remember and newcomers will see what jetpacks are all about.  Below is another screenshot to whet your Tribes appetite. 

Kotaku has posted this information as well, so head on over and share your super excited thoughts.  I'll bring more info as I get it.

I've got some information straight from the lead on the project:

• GarageGames purchased the ownership of the Tribes IP (all Tribes games) from Activision/Vivendi late last year.
• We do have the source code to the game, and the build has been updated with bug fixes
• The build will be distributed through the website, but still playable as a standalone game.
• The game will use the existing Master Server system that the original game used. We will provide a new master server address with the release.
• The game is not compatible with version 1.11 but you should be able to play the same demos as recorded on previous versions
• Mods and configs used in 1.11 will not be directly compatible, without at least minor changes, as the base game scripts have been cleaned up considerably by Andrew
• The game does NOT have updated graphics, this was a PR misunderstanding. The game does support modern file formats (PNG textures, Zip files)

Now, along the lines of picking up stagnant IPs that were great back in the day (and have alot of potential today), I'd say you should look in MechWarrior's direction... :D

Can someone explain this? Are you saying it will/can be possible to play with people who have the standalone version, just not 1.11? As in cross-platform play(I know it's the same platform, but you know what I mean)?

If GG messes this up that will be the absolute end of Tribes. It will be the final effort that will ever be.

For once it is difficult to mess things up.
They have the original source code.
They have the tribes IP

If they can just make it smoothly playable in the browser, be sure no cheaters are around, and maybe support it (with a stat/friend/achievement system similar to, with support for mod and script, and with clans and tournament support) then there's no way this can be messed up...
and since the original tribes already had tourny and script support, there's no really huge work to make things right...

so, I purchased "starsiege universe", the one where it is starsiege and tribes in one disk, but when i installed it only went to starsige. Maybe i am a loser when it comes o acsessing tribes, but i can't. could someone help me out? basically, heres how it goes....
. I put in StarSiege Universe.
. It loads up starsiege.
. I can't play in fulscreen cuz i have vista.
. How do i get to tribes????????
